Paolo Gentiloni is an Italian politician of the Democratic Party (Partito Democratico). From 2014 to 2016 he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and in 2016 after the resignation of Matteo Renzi he was appointed Prime Minister of Italy. Since 1 December 2019 he has served as European Commissioner for Economy in the Von der Leyen Commission. Gentiloni is considered a progressive politician and liberal christian.
